THEHUNGRYMUTE
TheHungryMute's story began with an inspiring exchange program trip to Germany, where I discovered the beautiful synergy between food and design. It was a revelation—an awakening, really—seeing how these two worlds can harmoniously blend. My journey started with a simple blog and poster designs, drawing influence from the vibrant sneaker culture and the stunning architecture that surrounded me.
In that moment, I realized that every dish could be a masterpiece and that the aesthetic experience of food could be just as important as its taste. With a playful spirit and a dash of ambition, I set out to redefine the culinary landscape, merging my passions into what would become TheHungryMute. And so, the adventure began—crafting gourmet brownies that are as visually captivating as they are delicious, inviting everyone to indulge in a uniquely designed culinary experience.
Food Design Journey Starts
My journey into the world of food design began with a deep desire to weave African narratives into the global culinary tapestry. I envisioned creating unique, well-designed products that celebrate our continent’s rich heritage and flavors, using food as both art and architecture to tell our stories. It’s a vision that combines not just the culinary arts, but also design, architecture, and humanitarian efforts—disciplines that are challenging to merge, but essential to my mission.
Studying such a multidisciplinary approach to food, however, presents its own set of challenges. The kind of education I seek—one that fully integrates food design with an emphasis on sustainability and cultural narrative—is currently only found in specialized institutions like IED in Spain and the Pratt Institute in the United States. These avenues are where I aspire to further my knowledge and skills, so I can better connect Africa to the world through thoughtfully crafted, nutritious, and delicious food products.
My goal is to highlight native ingredients unique to our diverse regions, creating products that resonate deeply with our identity and heritage. After all, food is not just nourishment; it is a powerful connector, a universal language that can unite us all. Through TheHungryMute, I aim to bridge continents and cultures, bringing the flavors of Africa to a global audience, one beautifully designed bite at a time.
Well done to our students going through to RCL Regional. For the Regional Finals, teams will prepare the main course to serve 3 pax within an hour, then present it to the judges for tasting. A Mystery Basket competition will follow where Teams will have 30 minutes to write a menu, and 1 hour and 15 minutes to prepare, cook and present a dessert course. The top 2 teams will then go through to the National Finals taking place in October. We are rooting 🥕🥕🥕for our Capsicum teams!

In June last year Youth Makers Competition was launched. Our vision: to find budding entrepreneurs
and help them take their businesses to the next level!
We invited young business owners to submit their ideas and selected 30 hopefuls to pitch their ideas
to a panel of judges. Based on their scores, we chose 15 winners who will now get all the mentoring they need to improve their product knowledge, market confidence, and business acumen and to help build solid foundations for the retail world.
